ok- sugar

How do you get off it (besides fasting)?

I used to never eat sugar, but back then I had rice every single day. I was considering that approach again, but that was, almost, um, ten years ago. Maybe my metabolism is different? Dunno.

you pretty much have to go cold turkey to kick the sugar habit.
the first two weeks of the South Beach diet lowers the carb cravings considerably. but then, it's easy to get hooked again, so being determined to stay off is essential.

anything that has a high glycemic index will have you craving more and more... this would include white rice, white potatoes, white bread, white sugar... get the picture?

When I started eating more whole grains like brown rice and others, I completely lost my sweet tooth.

It's the calories. I eat sweet things, but I watch the caloric intake associated with them. I also avoid sweetened soft drinks and fruit juices--this is where people get most of their sugar, as far as I can tell.

Nothing wrong with occasional desserts and sweet snacks as long as you know how many calories you're ingesting and that fits into your diet plan.

I just don't buy into the "no-carb" diets. Human beings need carbs. But, if you watch calories, you'll naturally be limiting the carbs you ingest to more easily meet calorie counting targets.

The no-crab diet is much easier to live with. I find myself automatically living on it for months at a time.
