I'm looking to network with folks, to extend an invitation to visit Bald Mountain Retreat (www.baldmountainretreat.com) as my guest. Like-minded people who appreciate rustic accommodations are welcome to come up at no charge. (Those who require a private room can inquire about those accommodations as well.)
Basically, I'm offering people the opportunity to come stay with a retired naturopathic doctor in a truly amazing natural setting, secluded, idyllic, peaceful...
Also, if you might like to lead a retreat, please contact me.
Thank you and you are welcome,
Dr David

What can be done to improve on them?

"Wacky" Diets

We've all tried insane diets in the past (cabbage soup, anyone?), whether to squeeze into our wedding dresses or just our favorite pair of pants. Have you given up refined sugar? Gone totally raw? Only eaten orange foods?

I'm writing a story about women who have tried "nutty" diets that actually worked (even if just short term). Some examples:

*I ate fast food and nothing else
*I ate tons of a special Cuban soup my mom invented
*I stopped drinking coffee and cola
*I ate everything I wanted until 4 PM and then stopped chowing down
*I drank a glass of merlot a night with dinner
*I ate one giant bag of candy corns throughout the day and nothing else (that was actually me)
*I ate Cocoa Puffs anytime I wanted something sweet
*I switched from beer to wine
*I ate no solid foods, only liquids

Please write up your little adventure on the scale with this info:
Name:
Age:
Occupation:
Starting weight:
Ending weight:

Email me at Megan.McNamara@yahoo.com

Thanks, babes!

I'm checking out Pureform's Power Green Pro http://pureformlabs.com/nutritition/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=26> and want to know if anyone has tried it? Like it? Apparently it changes your body's pH and makes your system more alkaline (better for fat breakdown...) which is more beneficial than a more acidic environment (more friendly to cancer, degenerative diseases, etc...). BTW, this is from their data sheet, not me.

Your thoughts?
Thanks, Nauga.

Like most of us, I've been on diets: There's the Slim Fast -- who can feel nourished drinking those drinks twice a day?? Doesn't even begin to satisfy my soul for food. There's the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet -- mostly proteins for two meals and then eat anything you want for an hour for your third meal of the day. I'm definitely a carbo-addict here, but my one meal of the day that I could eat for an hour only served to keep me addicted to the carbs (and I lost weight on it! but gained it all back and more when I could no longer stomach the egg omlet for breakfast every morning -- too heavy on my stomach.) There's the juice fasting diet: I felt wonderful, but as soon as I started eating food again, I was back into those refined carbs.

How about you? What diets have you tried and it just didn't work in the long haul?

Os i've been learnign about how soy isn't very good for you- especially processed soy. i've decided to try to cut down on my soy consumption. As a vegetarian- who eats occasional seafood- i'd like some suggestions for soy alternatives- mainly tofu alternatives.

You guys may have read my last post about the lil' modified BFL diet I'm currently working on, and I'd like to ask a questions about tomatoes. I absolutely hate tomatoes and alot of the meals call for them, however I simply leave them out. By doing that what am I not getting?.. Because I would like to substitute them with something else. Not necessarily to put in my sandwich, but just something to munch on to substitute the tomoato.

I used to never eat sugar, but back then I had rice every single day. I was considering that approach again, but that was, almost, um, ten years ago. Maybe my metabolism is different? Dunno.

Buying Supplements

I'm currently looking to find good prices on supplements, such as Whey Protein, Myoplex Deluxe, etc.

So far I've found a site called Allstarhealth.com that will sell the:

Myoplex Deluxe chocolate 36 pack for: $67.00
The 100% Whey Protein (Chocolate)for: $26.00

Which is okay for me, however right before I went to check out there was a message that said:

NOTE ABOUT MYOPLEX DELUXE CHOCOLATE: Due to shipping damages, the outer seal of all myoplex boxes have been opened to inspect damage, product inside have been inspected and are still in sealed manufacture packages.

But, just due to the fact of them taking the outer skin off of
"ALL" boxes, trips me out...

So any input on where to buy good supplements for a good price would be much appreciated. Thank you..

Hello there again guys n' gals!

Again, this has to do w/ my BFL diet....

Alot of the meals in the diet the (midmeals) ie: shakes, contain a scoop of whey protein, or some may contain a couple spoon fulls of myoplex.

In the beginning I told myself I would not take any supplements at all, but now im really interested in this whey protein, and myoplex. I would like opinions from you on my question: Should I take it?

Also, the guy in the store was telling me for a little guy like me he thinks I should use Egg protein, because its a slower releasing protein, and it would hold off longer inbtween meals, is he right?.. Should I take the egg or the whey?... AND!... Myoplex is it worth it? Should I spend the money on the 36 pack of Myoplex?

Thanks a million!

Mike

Have there been other methods that are shown to be more reliable?

Eating Healthy Diet

Hi there, I'm new to this tribe, so I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm currently in my eating helthy/exercise period. I gained about 10 pounds of fat during the last few months of inactivity and splurging on hohos. Anyhow, for the last 2 1/2, 3 weeks I've been exercising more and just watching what I eat. My goal is to convert the fat around my waist into lean muscle and maybe lose a pants size, back to my 32 waist. So far so good, I've been drinking lots of water; at least 1.5 liters a day and eating more fruits and vegetables....

I see some results but they are still minor...can you guys share your experiences on an "eating healthy diet" not, your typical no carb, or southbeach diet; my kind of diet is eat good natural food/ stay away from soda diet - how long does it take? am I going to have to run run to the threadmill to lose these 10 pounds? Thanks to all for contributing to my post.

i am so so adicted to snackwell's fat free devil's food cookies and have 4 or 5 boxes a week. i cut all other sweets out of my diet and thought that this exchange was a good thing...but now someone has said to me that i might as well go back to the nestle tollhouses cookies cause all the sugar in the fat free stuff doesn't help with weight loss/management anyway. are they right? have i just been fooling myself all this time? seriously.

thanks for your responses. :)

Just got it in, looking through the recipes now. It's called "Healthy Homestyle Cooking - 200 of your favorite recipes, with a fraction of the fat". The reviews on Amazon were from people saying that the meals still tasted great.

I'm really anxious to try it out, and my mouth is watering just by looking through it (there are some really interesting ideas I'd never thought of).

Will follow up in a week, or two.

My version of the South Beach Diet Tuna salad recipe:

6 oz can of water packed Tuna
Chop:
a couple of radishes
one Roma tomato seeded
2 inch section cucumber
one stalk of celery
1/2 avacodo

Layer in a salad bowl, starting with the tuna, then top with enough Romaine lettuce to give a good covering.

Dressing:
juice of 1 lime
one clove garlic,chopped
4 tsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

A glass of red wine and mmmmmmm.......
Pumpkin Pie query

I thought I'd try my pumpkin pie this year using Stevia Extract Powder instead of sugar. I followed the swap guidelines and used 1/2 tsp (slightly more than called for) instead of the 3/4 cup of sugar. Mixed the stevia with the spices and stirred into the pumpkin pie mix and baked for the required length of time.

Results? the pie was decent but not sweet enough, which can be remedied by using more stevia next time. The problem I encountered though, is this: the pie cracked about 1 inch inside the circumference of the shell. The cooler the pie got, the more pronounced the crack.

What happened? How can I avoid the crack in the future?

Anybody have any ideas?

Happy Thanksgiving

While tonight's full tummy doesn't speak well of "diet", the food WAS nutritious. There was turkey breast, green beans, steamed broccoli (ok, so the sour cream and parmesean sauce dip wasn't low fat), creamed corn, dressing, and Sister Schubert yeast rolls (definitely NOT on the South Beach diet.) It sure was good!! (even if I DO say so myself!)

Tomorrow back to diet. My body thanks me.
